THE SKYVIEW 2009-2010 MUSIC SEASON IS IN FULL SWING!

Greetings from the Skyview Choir and Orchestra Department. In the first three weeks of school here at Skyview, we have had a whirlwind of new names and faces, new paperwork, and new music. The Orchestra is off to a strong start with their first public performance coming up at Open House on October 1st at 5:45pm. Be sure to arrive early for this event to hear what the string players have been working on so far this year.

This year’s choirs are singing well and learning quickly. The Men’s Choir, Treble Choir, and Advanced Women’s Choir have already given mini-performances during class time for the office staff at Skyview. It is always fun for me to see the faces of our staff and parents light up as we rush into the Main Office, sing something amazing but declare it a ‘work-in-progress’, and rush back out again. We always promise more music if they will come to our Homecoming Concert on October 29th.

On the fund-raising front, students have been selling Entertainment Books for $20 – a discounted price available only to fund-raising students (these books usually retail at $35). So far, this fundraiser has gone well. If you haven’t had a chance to buy your Entertainment book this year, be sure to find your choir or orchestra student and get yours today! This fund-raiser will end October 2, 2010.

We are already in full swing for a combined Concert Choir and Orchestra music tour to Anaheim, CA this year. The students of these ensembles have been working hard to help their parents and families put together the $200 deposit that is due on October 2nd. Remember: while the $200 deposit is non-refundable, we are able to trade it back to you at the end of the year in exchange for fund-raised points if you have raised enough fund-raised points to cover the student portion of the trip! So – bring in the $200 deposit now, fund-raise up to the full cost of the tour, and then the out-of-pocket money comes back to your pocket!

On the parent booster front, we are currently meeting every week on Tuesdays at 7pm in the choir room to discuss and plan the 5th Annual Dinner Auction. The Auction is our primary group fundraising event. It’s a great opportunity for parents, family members, and community members to help support the activities of the Skyview choirs and orchestra, by joining us the night of the Auction and bidding on the wonderful items offered. We hope to see you (and your families and co-workers) there!

Also – don’t forget our monthly parent booster meetings on the first Tuesday of each month at 7pm in the choir room. Our next meeting is October 6th at 7pm. We will discuss the auction as well as making arrangements for this year’s projects and activities. If you are planning to chaperone the Concert Choir and Orchestra to Anaheim, this would be a great time to start showing up! Those that put in the most time and effort have first choice of going along!

See you soon –
Mr. Philip Denton
